The Lahti-based capital investment event Cleantech Venture Day will expand to London in Great Britain, where the event will be held once a year. The new partnership is between Cambridge Cleantech, consisting of a cluster of innovative start-ups, cleantech sector corporates and a range of academic institutions including the University of Cambridge and the Finnish Nordic Innovation Accelerator.

In the last 11 years, hundreds of cleantech businesses have met with international investors face-to-face at Cleantech Venture Day and collected more than €400 million in financing after the event to support their growth.

The first Cleantech Venture Day event will be held in London in late 2017, and the final of the international Global Cleantech Later Stage Award competition will also be organised in connection with the event. The event will also continue to be organised in Lahti, where the participants have traditionally consisted of businesses from Finland and other Nordic countries as well. In Lahti, the next Cleantech Venture Day event will be organised in the spring of 2018.

“At the Lahti event, we will continue to focus on Nordic growth companies and supporting them in terms of financing and recognition. We are really excited to get to grow the Cleantech Venture Day event’s reputation outside the Nordic countries with a committed partner. Cleantech Cambridge took the initiative and carried out an exhaustive comparison between different cleantech events before making their decision,” says Nordic Innovation Accelerator’s president Nina Harjula. “The collaboration will also enable us to develop the event to a new level, as the agreement involves us carrying out versatile marketing co-operation in terms of expanding the overall contents and the network.”

“We are excited to be part of organising the Cleantech Venture Day in Great Britain, working together with our new partner the Nordic Innovation Accelerator. Securing funding is still the biggest challenge for our member companies,” says Martin Garratt, CEO of Cambridge Cleantech. “This proven investment event, brings together a large group of the field’s most innovative cleantech companies as well as fund managers, other investors and cleantech experts. We look forward to the event itself as well as the funding opportunities it brings to our member companies.”
